Grant Stobart

Prior to joining Broadstone in January 2017, Grant was Chief Executive of Alexander Forbes International based in London and managed the Alexander Forbes group’s businesses across Europe, the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa, outside of South Africa.  In addition, Grant was responsible for mergers and acquisitions’ activity globally.

Grant has over 20 years’ experience, predominantly in regulated financial services.  He has worked in businesses spanning distribution, short- and long-term insurance, investment management, banking and consulting across multiple geographies.  He has a strong interest in strategy, and improving and building growth-oriented companies through aligning teams, a ‘Higher Purpose’ culture, digital disruption and non-organic growth.

Grant started his career with Arthur Andersen in South Africa before moving to Rand Merchant Bank after a stint as a partner in niche advisory business. Grant moved to London in 1999 as investment banking country head for the bank before getting involved in the group’s wealth management business where he built and ran the online bank.  Grant joined Alexander Forbes in 2003 taking over as International CEO in 2006.

Grant holds a B. Bus Sc. (Hons) in Finance and an H. Dip. Tax. Law from Cape Town and Witwatersrand Universities.  He lives in St Albans with his wife and two children and enjoys travelling and outdoor activities.

Chief Financial Officer

Nick Jones

Nick is Chief Financial Officer of Broadstone.  Prior to this, he was CFO Attenda, CFO Achilles Group, Global Head of Finance for Reuters plc where he also led the integration of Thomson and Reuters.  Nick has held senior financial roles in technology and media businesses in the UK, the US and Europe including Virgin Media, Phillips Electronics and RR Donnelley.  Nick is also a Non-Executive Director of YouGov plc.

He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and holds a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance.

Chief Commercial Officer

Natasha Glasgow

Natasha joined us from MoneySuperMarket.com where she was Commercial Director for Insurance. The insurance vertical was the largest driver of revenue for the Group generating over £175m revenue annually. Natasha was responsible for the strategic development of the insurance business, ensuring best in class customer experience, continuously delivering double digit revenue growth and overseeing the relationships and contractual arrangements with over 150 insurer partners and managing several B2B technology supplier and white label relationships.

Prior to joining MoneySuperMarket.com Natasha held several senior roles in the insurance industry at Hastings Direct and BGL Group.

With over 20 years’ experience in the financial services sector, Natasha’s career has spanned roles in both banking and insurance covering Operations, Marketing, Product & Proposition development and overall P&L ownership. Her diverse experience and digital focus will help Broadstone to deliver its ambitious growth plans.

Natasha lives in Peterborough with her husband, daughter and French bulldog Lexie.  She enjoys travelling, entertaining and is a keen runner and road cyclist.

Nigel Jones

Nigel is currently the Head of Consulting & Actuarial at Broadstone and focuses on delivery of the Firm’s strategic goals and growing market share.  Nigel is a qualified actuary with over 20 years’ experience in the pensions industry and is a scheme actuary to a number of schemes ranging from under £10 million to over £1 billion in asset size.  He also specialises in liability management and pension scheme de-risking.

Nigel joined Mitchell Consulting, now Broadstone, in 2009, having previously held senior roles with, KPMG, Mercer and Aon Consulting.

Nigel sits on a number of committees for the Actuarial Profession and has been the President of the North West Actuarial Society since 2010 and is also a School Governor.

Director, Head of Employee Benefits

Paul McGuckin

Paul is Head of Employee Benefits and is responsible for setting and delivering Broadstone’s strategic objective of being one of the UK’s leading employee benefits and pension consultancies.

Paul was previously CEO of CS Financial Solutions (CSFS) which was acquired by Broadstone in January 2019. At CSFS Paul was responsible for the strategic direction and the day to day running of its pensions, benefits and wealth management consultancy services, both in the UK and internationally via the Assurex Global network.

His career in financial services spans over 20 years, and began with Standard Life before holding a number of senior positions with Griffiths & Armour and Charles Stanley, before heading up the senior management team that completed the buyout of CSFS from Charles Stanley.

Paul’s key skills in strategic planning, change management and implementing a ‘shared vison’ will help Broadstone meet its ambitious objectives.

Paul is from the red half of Merseyside and is based out of Broadstone’s Liverpool office.

Director, Head of Pensions Administration

Paul Bowden FIA

Paul, a qualified actuary, was one of the owners of BBS when the business was acquired by the Broadstone Group. He is now responsible for administration services of the Group. He has worked in the industry for over 20 years, previously as a Senior Pensions Consultant at Mercer. Paul has overseen the growth in our administration department to the thriving team it is today. Paul is committed to maintaining our demanding service standards, believing that “through employing the best staff available and using high-tech workflow techniques to monitor every member request, we can differentiate ourselves from our competitors in terms of both service and value for money”. Paul enjoys all sports (although various injuries have put paid to his playing ambitions), following Bristol Rovers, Gloucestershire CCC and spending most of his holiday time supporting the England cricket team on their winter tours.

Angela McGough

Angela is the Head of Human Resources providing strategic and operational Human Resource advice and guidance to the Broadstone Group of Companies.

Angela has worked in HR since 1998 and has experience in a number of sectors including recruitment and energy, prior to joining BDO Investment Management (now Broadstone) in 2007.

Angela has extensive experience across the full HR spectrum with specific expertise in TUPE and M&A (relating to HR).

Angela is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) and has a BA (Hons) from Royal Holloway, University of London and a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management from Kingston University.

Head of Compliance

Liz Kane

Liz joined in 2016, with responsibility for regulatory Compliance and Risk; prior to joining Broadstone, she held a number of senior Compliance positions at Willis Towers Watson.   She is professionally qualified, holding the Chartered Insurance Institute’s Chartered status.

Liz has had a varied career, predominantly within Employee Benefits, which has included advisory roles, operations and a brief spell in Internal audit, prior to specialising in Compliance. She has held roles at Standard Life, Hazell Carr Pensions Consulting and Chase de Vere, and has undertaken business and change management projects.  She has a strong interest in continuous improvement.

Head of Business Development - Trustee Solutions

Neil Barton

Neil’s career in pensions began back in 1999 at Profund Systems, a leading provider of pensions administration software. Neil spent nearly 10 years at Profund. He also had a short spell with TerraNua, a financial services software company based in Dublin and part of Fidelity International.

Neil specialises in working closely with both pension schemes and sponsoring employers and prides himself on fully understanding the requirements of his prospective clients before finding appropriate, high quality and cost-effective solutions that exactly address their needs.

Andrew Mobberley

Andrew Mobberley is Head of Sales based out of our London office having joined us from Aon.  Prior to this he has worked for Thomsons Online Benefits and Alexander Forbes where he spent 15 years in various senior sales roles. Andrew is responsible for leading the new business team, whilst helping to shape our propositions so that we remain market leading.

Andrew is an experienced leader who is actively involved in helping clients shape their reward programme to drive engagement with benefits. He is especially interested in the application of technology in the workplace.

Although his football days are long behind him, he enjoys watching all forms of sport and his aim is to improve his golf handicap.

Head of London Actuarial

Alan Carey

Alan is a Scheme Actuary who has worked in the pensions field for over 20 years. He joined Broadstone from JLT / Mercer in October 2019 and heads our London Actuarial team.

Alan qualified in 1999 and has spent the intervening decades advising Trustees and sponsors of Defined Benefit pension schemes on ways to protect the interests of their members’ benefits while balancing the needs of the sponsoring entity and its various stakeholders. Alan has provided advice to these parties on investment strategy, shaping benefit design (including the introduction of Defined Contribution arrangements) and mitigating liability and asset risks, as well as negotiating equitable solutions during merger and acquisition activity.

Alan has helped several groups of Trustees through the full journey from closure to future accrual, through improved funding and members option exercises, to eventual buy-out and wind-up of their Trust.

Outside of work, Alan has three children at secondary school whose extra-curricular activities dominate much of his spare-time, but whenever the chance arises he enjoys watching the odd game of rugby.

Senior Actuarial Director

Chris Rice

Chris joined Broadstone in 2020 after 7 years at Capita Employee Solutions as a Senior Actuarial Consultant. Prior to that Chris held a similar role at JLT (now Mercer).

Chris is widely experienced in scheme de-risking and has navigated many schemes through liability management exercises right through to the buyout phase, and will focus on growing Broadstone’s corporate consulting proposition.  Chris has been a Scheme Actuary for over 10 years with experience of advising schemes with a range of asset sizes from below £10m to over £300m.

Senior Actuarial Director

Andy Thomson

Andy is a Senior Actuarial Director and Scheme Actuary based in Broadstone’s Glasgow office. Along with Ann Marie Dickson, he founded Thomson Dickson Consulting in 2002. TDC became part of the Broadstone Group in April 2019.

Andy has extensive experience in managing all aspects of DB pension schemes and advising on the full range of actuarial and consultancy services to both trustees and sponsoring employers. He is also involved with the design and delivery of communication programs to help members understand the value and options available with their DB scheme benefits.

Andy has a degree in Mathematics and Statistics from Glasgow University and became a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries in 1999.

Andy is married to Lorraine and has three children, Jack, Stuart and Lauren. He is not encouraging them to become actuaries.

Senior Actuarial Director

Gerry Walsh

Gerry is a qualified actuary, and has been involved in the pensions industry since 1990, advising defined benefit and defined contribution arrangements run by a wide range of industry sponsors including a number of household names.

With pragmatism built on the comfort of a thorough understanding of the workings of a pension scheme, Gerry is able to take the lead role in guiding schemes smoothly to their eventual destination.

His extensive industry experience incorporates roles at PwC, Punter Southall, Mercer and Mitchell Consulting, with particular expertise in:

– Funding

– Governance

– Risk and investment matters

– Scheme administration

– Insurance solutions

– Liability management

– Scheme “journey planning”

Gerry believes that the pensions industry is awash with unnecessary complication, and he is a firm advocate of clear and straightforward communication, for which he is often complimented by his clients.

Added to that, his personable nature allows him to foster good long term relations with his clients and contacts, and build bridges between stakeholders during periods of conflict and negotiation.

Gerry graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1990 with a first class honours degree in Economics and Accounting. He qualified as an actuary in 1995.

Iain Tait

Iain is a Senior Actuarial Director with over 30 years’ experience in the pensions industry. Iain has worked with many household-name clients during his career, advising both Trustees and sponsoring employers on their pension provision and management of risk. His career has included previous roles at JLT and HSBC. Outside the office, Iain enjoys playing golf and chilling out with his family and ‘Scottie’ dogs.

Head of Bristol Advisory

Gavin Giles

Gavin is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and joined Broadstone (then BBS) from Towers Watson in 2013, after also having worked at Aon and Mercer. Between 2014 and 2016 Gavin served a two-year term as the President of the Bristol Actuarial Society.

Acting as Consulting Actuary to a wide range of sponsors and pension schemes, he was appointed to the BBS Board of Directors from 1 April 2018 and has responsibility for our Consultancy Services including the development of the solutions that we offer to our clients. Gavin holds a first class masters degree in Astrophysics from the University of Bristol (although he says that the universe has moved on a lot since he completed his studies!). Away from work, he spends most of his time with his young family and has a keen interest in sport, helping to coach his son’s rugby team.

Marc Devereux FIA

Marc joined Broadstone in 2020 as an Investment Consulting Director.  As well as leading investment advice to a range of clients, Marc is responsible for helping to grow and develop Broadstone’s investment consulting services.

Marc previously worked as a Senior Investment Consultant at Momentum Investment Solutions & Consulting.  Prior to this he was an Investment Principal at Mercer and started his career at Aon Hewitt.  Marc graduated from the University of Southampton with a first class honours degree in Mathematics and Actuarial Science.

Marc is a qualified actuary and has 20 years’ of industry experience.  He has worked with a broad range of UK pension schemes with assets up to £10bn.  He advises clients on a full range of investment areas, including: setting strategic objectives, asset allocation, liability hedging, manager selection, implementation and monitoring.

Nick Mellor FIA

Nick joined Broadstone (then BBS) in August 2007 after qualifying with a BSc (First Class) in Mathematics from Bristol University. He joined the investment team in July 2012, and supports the team in strategic investment reviews, performance reports and collating information on fund managers. He is also a keen chef specialising in baking, with his colleagues sampling his work from time to time.

Tim Russell FIA

Tim is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries with 16 years’ industry experience and joined Broadstone (then BBS) in 2018, having previously worked for HSBC and JLT. He is a senior investment consultant whose main role is to provide strategic investment advice to clients. Before advising clients on their investments, Tim was a scheme actuary, pensions consultant and corporate adviser. Tim has a Law degree from the University of Manchester. In his spare time, Tim enjoys travelling, although with a young family he is finding this increasingly difficult!

Actuarial Director

Mark Buckley

Mark Buckley is an Actuarial Director, supporting clients of all sizes with their pension benefits.  Based at Broadstone’s office in Sheffield, Mark manages a team of 17 actuaries and actuarial students.  Mark joined the firm in March 2007, prior to which he worked in the actuarial team at PriceWaterhouseCoopers for 6 years.

Working in the actuarial industry since 1989, and specialising in pensions and investments since 1995, Mark is a very experienced actuarial consultant with expertise in providing strategic advice to Trustees and Corporate clients across their employee benefits.  Mark is a Scheme Actuary for numerous schemes with a passion for good value and proportionate advice across his client portfolio.

Out of work, Mark’s main interest is mountain biking and football, although he would never pass up on the opportunity to play golf.

Technical Director

David Brooks

David provides trustee secretarial and consultancy services to clients, providing a variety of advice including governance matters, training, annual and lifetime allowance issues and other changes to legislation.

David leads our pensions technical team, providing support to the administration, actuarial and wider business.  He drafts most of our Briefing Notes and the BROADSTONE Index.

He has worked in the pensions industry for over seventeen years, since leaving university. He began his career in the personal pensions area before moving to occupational and trust based pensions administration.  He originally joined the firm in 2001 from Watson Wyatt.

Director of Group Schemes

John Newman

John is the Director of our Group Schemes Department which provides administration services to Broadstone’s clients, ranging in size from a total membership of 20 members up to 4,000 members. 

The services offered by the department include pension administration, consultancy, pensioner payroll, cash management, preparation of trustees’ report and accounts, annuity purchase, secretary to the trustees, trustee training, technical advice and client briefings.

John joined Friends Provident in 1989 and moved to Century Life in 1995. At both companies he worked on the administration of various types of group pension and group risk arrangements.

John joined the firm in 1998 and has extensive experience of setting up schemes where Broadstone have been appointed.

Client Relationship Director

Paul Frost APMI

Paul started his career at Sedgwick Noble Lowndes as an administrator in 1997, and worked for Buck Consultants for 13 years before joining BBS in February 2016. BBS was then acquired by the Broadstone Group in 2019. He is qualified as an Associate of the Pensions Management Institute, and joined the Board of BBS in 2018. Paul is responsible for managing the relationships we have with our pension administration clients, ensuring the services being provided exceed the expectations of clients and members alike. Paul is married with two young children, and whilst he loves spending time with his family, he also enjoys the odd Sunday morning on the golf course.

Head of Proposition – Pensions & Savings

Rachel Meadows

Rachel leads our proposition and strategy for Pensions & Savings, which incorporates our Defined Contribution specialist advisory teams and our Personal Financial Planning specialists. She is a Chartered Financial Planner and a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute. Rachel is based primarily in Broadstone’s Liverpool office.

Rachel provides specialist pension consultancy and strategic advice to corporate clients across a range of advice issues. With a wealth of experience of advising employer and trustee clients around their pension schemes and benefit strategies, one of Rachel’s key skills lies in helping clients find effective, pragmatic and cost effective solutions, and in improving individual financial outcomes.

She has worked in the pensions and financial planning industry for over 13 years after graduating from university. Rachel lives in Southport with her husband and two sons, and enjoys travelling, fitness and family time.

David Pye

David Pye is our Head of Client Consulting based in our Sheffield office. David has been with Broadstone since march 2013 and has worked in the industry since 1992. During his career he has held various consultancy roles and has also been Regional Director for both Chase de Vere and Alexander Forbes looking after their Leeds and Manchester offices.

David’s specialism is in Defined Contribution Pension schemes where he works with his clients to ensure compliance and best value for both employer and employee and he has a strategic approach to wider Employee Benefits and communications. David works in partnership with his own clients as well as the Employer Services consulting team to ensure delivery of our employee benefits proposition.

Susan Bourke

Susan leads proposition and strategy for our Risk & Health team.   The team delivers innovative solutions to clients, taking a fully holistic approach to their employee benefits, engagement and wellbeing needs.

With over 24 years in the financial services sector Susan’s career has included roles in Wealth Management and Business Protection before moving into Employee Benefits and Group Risk where she has specialised for the past 15 years.

Susan is predominantly based in our Liverpool office and continues to support some of our key accounts, ranging from SME to large corporates, including FTSE 100. Her wealth of experience ensures she is able to find innovative and cost effective solutions to improve our clients overall benefits strategy.

She lives in Wirral Merseysde and enjoys travel, yoga, dog walking and is an avid supporter of Liverpool Football Club.

Head of Proposition - International Risk & Health

Takako Nagata

Takako Nagata is Head of Proposition for International Risk & Health and is responsible for managing international clients, predominantly Far Eastern companies of all sizes with their Health and Wellbeing benefit.  Takako joined 3HR Benefits Consultancy in August 2008, and is now based at Broadstone’s headquarters in London.  Prior to joining, Takako was Head of International Services at PIFC Consulting (now part of Capita Employee Benefits) for 8 years.

Specialising in International Health & Wellbeing since 2001, and working with a number of large multi-national companies, Takako has expertise in understanding cultural differences and can provide strategic solutions to corporate clients on how to manage their Health & Wellbeing benefits, and support company policies and procedures.  She has a cltakakear understanding of problems and challenges multi-national companies face in foreign countries.  She also understands that each case is unique and has a passion for providing support that will achieve the best outcome for employers and employees in a cost-effective way.

Geoff has over 20 years’ consultancy experience covering a range of pension scheme issues. He started his career at Hymans Robertson where he spent 10 years advising clients on all aspects of their pension arrangements. He joined Kerr & Company / Pope Anderson in 2002 and was an equity partner, heading up the firm’s investment consultancy practice prior to the move to Broadstone in November 2012.

Head of Pension Administration (Bristol)

Marc Davies

Marc joined Broadstone (then BBS) in October 2002 as Administration Manager and joined the Board of BBS in 2018. He has worked in the industry since 1988 and obtained the PMI’s Qualification in Pensions Administration during that time. Marc has day-to-day responsibility for our Bristol-based administration services, and he also specialises in new client implementation and discontinuance work. Marc is married with three children and, in what little spare time remains, enjoys reading, watching most sports and participating in a few.

Richard Emery

Richard joined Broadstone (then BBS) in May 2006 from Lloyds TSB, where he worked on the in-house pensions team. He has extensive experience in Final Salary pensions administration, having also worked for two other Bristol consultancies and Clerical Medical Investment Group.

His current role as Deputy Head of Administration involves working closely with the Administration Manager and Team Leaders to ensure Broadstone continues to provide an excellent service, with particular emphasis on member feedback and staff development.

Richard is married, and he and his wife are keen cyclists, actively taking part in sportives and time trials.

Julie Stewart

Julie is Head of Pensions Admin Operations and has overall responsibility for the pensions administration, payroll, accounts and treasury functions across Sheffield and Manchester.  She is based in the Sheffield office and oversees service delivery for all Administration clients, driving continued improvement of client experience.

Julie joined Broadstone in August 2019 with 19 years’ experience in the pensions industry.  This experience has been built up in various roles with Aon, with her final role seeing her lead on the delivery of quality administrative services to a large number of clients with final salary, defined contribution and CARE pension schemes.  Julie has an Advanced Diploma in Retirement Provision from the PMI.

Investment Consultant

Harvi Bhangu

Harvi is an investment consultant and part-qualified actuary who joined Broadstone in May 2018.  He is part of Broadstone’s London team of investment consultants and research analysts, and provides advice to a wide range of UK based clients.

Harvi’s main focus is helping pension schemes meet their ultimate goal of settling all member benefits in full, bringing investment expertise and offering solutions at every stage of the journey.  He has helped a number of clients to implement de-risking frameworks.

Prior to Broadstone, Harvi worked at Legal and General Investment Management (LGIM) as an LDI product specialist where he advised clients on investment solutions which met their de-risking frameworks.  Prior to LGIM, Harvi worked as an investment consultant at JLT where he advised on all aspects of defined benefit pension arrangements.  He began his career as an actuarial analyst at Alexander Forbes.

Nick Brazier

Nick Brazier is FCA regulated Senior Corporate Benefits Consultant, supporting his clients to engage with their employee benefits from pension consultancy, member communications to the online benefits portal. Nick currently lives in the Midlands and is based out of Broadstone’s HQ in London, he joined the firm in January 2019 as part of the CS Financial Solutions acquisition, where he had been since January 2016.

With over 20 year’s experience within the Financial Services sector of which 12 years are in the corporate pensions and benefit’s space. Nick is a very experienced consultant, providing advice and consultancy to corporate clients across their employee benefits.

Chris Hampson

Matthew Dorrington

Matt is a Senior Consultant in our Employee Benefits team with a particular specialism in Defined Contribution (DC) pensions – contract, Trust and Master Trust.  From start-ups to multinational businesses Matt is experienced at working across the whole spectrum and is skilled at helping clients to understand their true needs and objectives, in order to find the right solutions, that add value and bring a tangible return on investment of both their time and money.

Matt joined us in October 2018 prior to which he spent 5 years as a Senior Consultant at Capita Employee Benefits. Matt has worked in employee benefits since 1995 spending his first 17 years at one of the largest insurers of workplace pensions in the UK. Having worked for both insurers and consultancies over the last 25 years has given Matt a very well informed and rounded view. He has even spent 18 months working on website content for some of the largest pension schemes in the UK.

Antony Hale

Antony Hale is a Senior Consultant based in our London office and is responsible for advising and coordinating services for our clients.

Kathy Primo

Kathy is a Consultant with circa 30 years’ experience in the financial services sector of which around 20 years have been in the field supporting clients of all sizes with their employee benefits, engagement and well being.

Based at Broadstone’s Falkirk office in Scotland, Kathy joined Broadstone in June 2015 to manage a portfolio of clients and develop the group risk and health and wellbeing proposition.

Prior to this, she worked for Blackmore Healthcare/Alexander Forbes, who were subsequently purchased by Jardine Lloyd Thompson, where she held the role of Account Manager developing her own portfolio of healthcare, wellbeing and risk schemes.

Previous experience includes working with general insurance brokers and with Bupa for 10 years where she managed the sales support team for the external Consultants and provided Account Management Support to the Regional Sales Manager.

She then made the transition to a Consultant with her own portfolio.

Kathy has her IF7 Health Insurance qualification in Health Insurance Products and is currently working towards the GR1 qualification in Group Risk.

Emma Machin

Vijay Shah

Vijay is an Actuarial Director based at the Firm’s headquarters in London; he joined Broadstone in August 2011.

Vijay graduated from the London School of Economics in 1996 with a degree in Actuarial Science and is a Fellow of the Faculty and Institute of Actuaries.

Throughout his career, Vijay has been involved in all aspects of trustee advice work for schemes ranging in size from £1m to £500m and is a Scheme Actuary to a number of pension schemes. He has also provided investment consulting advice to smaller closed schemes on route to ultimate buyout.

He has advised corporate clients on a variety of pension projects such as benefit alterations, scheme closure, reaching agreement with trustees on various aspects of actuarial valuations and on pension accounting. This has included giving evidence as an expert witness at the Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris, in a pensions dispute between multinational firms.

Actuarial Director

John Broome Saunders

John is a qualified consulting actuary and authorised investment advisor, with over 20 years’ experience of providing analytically-focused advice on the management of complex long-term financial structures such as defined benefit pension schemes.

John provides advice on funding, investment, accounting and management issues, drawing on Broadstone’s wider expertise in financial and investment modelling. In particular, John helps clients understand and manage the legacy risks associated with defined benefit pension provision. He has developed a number of innovative approaches that can both increase trustee security and reduce sponsor risks.

A mathematics graduate from the University of Durham, John spent the early part of his actuarial career with international consulting firm Towers Perrin, and has been at Broadstone for over 14 years.

Robyn Smith

Robyn Smith is a qualified Actuary and Consultant based in the Manchester office. Robyn joined Broadstone in July 2018 and has nearly 10 years industry experience having previously worked as an Actuarial Analyst at Capita and a DC investment consultant at River and Mercantile. She has a range of technical and consulting experience as a result of providing actuarial advice to Trust based clients and investment advice both from a fiduciary and advisory perspective.

Ann Marie Dickson

Ann Marie is a Scheme Actuary based in Broadstone’s Glasgow office. Along with Andy Thomson, she founded Thomson Dickson Consulting in 2002. TDC became part of the Broadstone Group in April 2019.

Ann Marie has extensive experience in managing all aspects of DB pension schemes and advising on a broad range of actuarial and consultancy services to both trustees and sponsoring employers.

Kim Sraidi manages the Regulated Pensions administration team based at our Sheffield Office. Kim joined the firm in April 2013. Karen Rodgers

Karen Rodgers is an Actuarial Director, based at Broadstone’s office in Sheffield. Karen joined Kerr & Company in October 2005 and followed its transition to Pope Anderson and Broadstone. She has over 30 years experience working in pensions, having started her career with Noble Lowndes and then SNL and Mercer.

Karen is a member of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and holds a Scheme Actuary certificate. Beau Flanaghan

Beau joined Broadstone in 2017 as an Actuarial Consultant. Prior to this, Beau started his professional career as an actuarial analyst at Mercer in 2012, where he quickly became a key member of the actuarial team. This involved providing actuarial support to senior colleagues and scheme actuaries on a wide range of Trustee and employer services, including triennial valuations and pension cost accounting. He also has valuable experience in presenting to members and running member drop-in sessions.

Beau graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2011 with a 1st class degree in Economics. He then continued his studies at the University of Sheffield and was awarded a Masters degree (Distinction) in Financial Economics in 2012. Mark Channon

Craig Williams

Craig is currently a member of Broadstone’s Employee Benefits management team and has over 20 years’ experience as an Employee Benefits Consultant over which time he has acted in various capacities. Prior to joining Broadstone Craig was the Managing Director of CS Financial Solutions, a business acquired by Broadstone in February 2019.

As part of his role, Craig is responsible for the development of Broadstone’s flexible benefits technology, Flexcel, working closely with programmers, voluntary benefits specialists and total reward professionals. Craig now manages the team responsible for the delivery of Flexcel to clients and has personally supported several recent platform launches.

As head of Broadstone’s benefits technology offering, he is ideally placed to consult with Broadstone’s key clients to continually review and develop our proposition to meet changing client needs.

Craig currently also acts as key account manager to some of Broadstone’s larger employers providing specialist pensions support and holistic consultancy alongside management of employee benefits technology. Areas of specialism include workplace pensions reform, design of corporate benefit packages; issues relating to merger and acquisition; and management of defined benefits, defined contributions and hybrid schemes.

David Hamilton

David joined Broadstone in 2019 having previously worked for JLT and HSBC. He qualified as an actuary in 2004 and has 13 years experience as a scheme actuary advising on a range of scheme funding issues as well as being heavily involved in several large buy-in transactions. Andrew Blain

Andrew is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and joined Broadstone in July 2019 having previously worked at Willis Towers Watson and HSBC Actuaries and Consultants. He has over 18 years’ experience in the pensions industry, advising both trustee and corporate clients, and he has held a number of scheme actuary appointments since 2012. Andrew graduated with a first-class degree in Geology and Geophysics from Durham University, and in a previous career, worked as a seismologist in the oil industry. Outside of work, he is a keen cyclist and enjoys a wide variety of sports (although he continues to be disappointed in his football team, Newcastle United). He also enjoys cooking and eating and is grateful that cycling burns off the calories.

Yvonne Wan

Yvonne joined Broadstone in October 2018 and is based in our Manchester office. She is a qualified actuary with 18 years’ experience in the pensions industry.

Yvonne has extensive experience of providing advice to Trustee and corporate clients on defined benefit and defined contribution pension arrangements ranging from under £5 million to over £500 million in asset size. This advice has spanned the full lifetime of a pension scheme from new scheme set-up all the way through to buy-out and wind-up, including regular ongoing matters such as triennial funding valuations, integrated risk management, member communications and scheme governance, and one-off projects such as bulk liability management exercises, scheme mergers and employer debts.

She holds a Scheme Actuary Practising Certificate and is currently appointed as the Scheme Actuary for a number of pension schemes.

Prior to joining Broadstone, Yvonne started her career at Mercer working there for over 8 years before moving to JLT (which became part of Mercer in 2019).

Yvonne has a first class honours degree in Mathematics from Manchester University, where she won a number of prizes for outstanding performance. She qualified as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in 2005. She was also the People & Society News Editor for The Actuary magazine, the official magazine of the actuarial profession, for over 7 years until mid-2019.

Louise Randall FPMI

Louise has a first class degree in History from Cardiff University and an MA from Bristol University. A long-standing employee of the Broadstone Group, she joined the business in 2000 having previously been at Mercer for two years. Catherine joined BBS in 2005 after completing a Law degree at the University of Manchester and became part of the Broadstone Group in October 2019. Chris McCarthy

Chris is a Pensions Consultant in our Trustees Services/Consulting and Actuarial department at Broadstone, based at our London office. Chris has been working in pensions since 2002 and joined Broadstone in 2004.  Since joining Broadstone Chris has gained invaluable experience as a Senior Administrator and Team leader and from 2008 has been carrying out the role of Trustee Secretary and consultant to a number of our clients, not only prepare meeting packs and minutes of trustee meetings but also helping to guide trustees through the ever changing pensions legislation landscape and the growing governance requirements. Before joining Broadstone, Chris worked at AMP NPI (subsequently outsourced to Hazell Carr), working on a portfolio of insured Group Personal Pension arrangements on all aspects of administration.

Richard graduated from Glasgow University in 1993 gaining a Master of Arts degree in History and started his career in pensions at Sedgwick Noble Lowndes in the same year. Over the next decade, he gained further experience with other large pensions consultancies.

Richard joined Broadstone (formerly TDC) in April 2007. As a Client Manager, he manages the provision of Broadstone’s full range of standard services to a large portfolio of clients from a variety of industries. In addition, he provides specialist bespoke services for employers and trustees such as managing scheme closures, liability reduction exercises, financial education member presentations and providing trustee training.

Steven Crosby

Steven joined Broadstone (then BBS) in 2009 after graduating with a degree in Mathematics. He started as a Trainee Pensions Administrator, has attained the PMI Retirement Provision Certificate (RPC), Certificate in Pension Calculations (CPC) and Certificate in Pensions Automatic Enrolment (CPAE) qualifications and progressed to become a Deputy Team Leader. Steven enjoys watching most sports particularly motorsport, football, darts, snooker and cricket where he is a member of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club.

Rob has over 14 years’ experience working within the financial services industry as a trusted adviser. His career has seen him work at both HSBC and Natwest, and was previously at CS Financial Solutions for over four years before they were acquired by Broadstone.

At Broadstone, he is part of an expert team of individual advisers who specialise in providing professional financial advice to individual clients, frequently to the Directors and executive staff from Broadstone’s corporate clients. Rob is fully Diploma in Financial Planning qualified and is working towards his Chartered status.

Rob specialises in providing advice on retirement planning, in particularly cash flow modelling and investment strategies, whilst bringing in other areas of the business to provide a truly holistic financial planning service.

With over 30 years’ experience in the industry, Bronia is qualified to highest level and is a Chartered Wealth Manager. Prior to joining Broadstone in January 2017, Grant was Chief Executive of Alexander Forbes International based in London and managed the Alexander Forbes group’s businesses across Europe, the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa, outside of South Africa.  In addition, Grant was responsible for mergers and acquisitions’ activity globally.

Grant has over 20 years’ experience, predominantly in regulated financial services.  He has worked in businesses spanning distribution, short- and long-term insurance, investment management, banking and consulting across multiple geographies.  He has a strong interest in strategy, and improving and building growth-oriented companies through aligning teams, a ‘Higher Purpose’ culture, digital disruption and non-organic growth.

Grant started his career with Arthur Andersen in South Africa before moving to Rand Merchant Bank after a stint as a partner in niche advisory business. Grant moved to London in 1999 as investment banking country head for the bank before getting involved in the group’s wealth management business where he built and ran the online bank.  Grant joined Alexander Forbes in 2003 taking over as International CEO in 2006.

Grant holds a B. Bus Sc. (Hons) in Finance and an H. Dip. Tax. Law from Cape Town and Witwatersrand Universities.  He lives in St Albans with his wife and two children and enjoys travelling and outdoor activities.

Nick is Chief Financial Officer of Broadstone.  Prior to this, he was CFO Attenda, CFO Achilles Group, Global Head of Finance for Reuters plc where he also led the integration of Thomson and Reuters.  Nick has held senior financial roles in technology and media businesses in the UK, the US and Europe including Virgin Media, Phillips Electronics and RR Donnelley.  Nick is also a Non-Executive Director of YouGov plc.

Natasha Glasgow

Natasha joined us from MoneySuperMarket.com where she was Commercial Director for Insurance. The insurance vertical was the largest driver of revenue for the Group generating over £175m revenue annually. Natasha was responsible for the strategic development of the insurance business, ensuring best in class customer experience, continuously delivering double digit revenue growth and overseeing the relationships and contractual arrangements with over 150 insurer partners and managing several B2B technology supplier and white label relationships.

Prior to joining MoneySuperMarket.com Natasha held several senior roles in the insurance industry at Hastings Direct and BGL Group.

With over 20 years’ experience in the financial services sector, Natasha’s career has spanned roles in both banking and insurance covering Operations, Marketing, Product & Proposition development and overall P&L ownership. Her diverse experience and digital focus will help Broadstone to deliver its ambitious growth plans.

Paul Bowden FIA

Paul, a qualified actuary, was one of the owners of BBS when the business was acquired by the Broadstone Group. He is now responsible for administration services of the Group. He has worked in the industry for over 20 years, previously as a Senior Pensions Consultant at Mercer. Paul has overseen the growth in our administration department to the thriving team it is today. Paul is committed to maintaining our demanding service standards, believing that “through employing the best staff available and using high-tech workflow techniques to monitor every member request, we can differentiate ourselves from our competitors in terms of both service and value for money”. Paul enjoys all sports (although various injuries have put paid to his playing ambitions), following Bristol Rovers, Gloucestershire CCC and spending most of his holiday time supporting the England cricket team on their winter tours.

Angela is the Head of Human Resources providing strategic and operational Human Resource advice and guidance to the Broadstone Group of Companies.

Angela has worked in HR since 1998 and has experience in a number of sectors including recruitment and energy, prior to joining BDO Investment Management (now Broadstone) in 2007.

Angela has extensive experience across the full HR spectrum with specific expertise in TUPE and M&A (relating to HR).

Rachel Meadows

Rachel leads our proposition and strategy for Pensions & Savings, which incorporates our Defined Contribution specialist advisory teams and our Personal Financial Planning specialists. She is a Chartered Financial Planner and a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute. Rachel is based primarily in Broadstone’s Liverpool office.

Rachel provides specialist pension consultancy and strategic advice to corporate clients across a range of advice issues. With a wealth of experience of advising employer and trustee clients around their pension schemes and benefit strategies, one of Rachel’s key skills lies in helping clients find effective, pragmatic and cost effective solutions, and in improving individual financial outcomes.

She has worked in the pensions and financial planning industry for over 13 years after graduating from university. Rachel lives in Southport with her husband and two sons, and enjoys travelling, fitness and family time.

Susan Bourke

Susan leads proposition and strategy for our Risk & Health team.   The team delivers innovative solutions to clients, taking a fully holistic approach to their employee benefits, engagement and wellbeing needs.

With over 24 years in the financial services sector Susan’s career has included roles in Wealth Management and Business Protection before moving into Employee Benefits and Group Risk where she has specialised for the past 15 years.

Susan is predominantly based in our Liverpool office and continues to support some of our key accounts, ranging from SME to large corporates, including FTSE 100. Her wealth of experience ensures she is able to find innovative and cost effective solutions to improve our clients overall benefits strategy.

She lives in Wirral Merseysde and enjoys travel, yoga, dog walking and is an avid supporter of Liverpool Football Club.

Takako Nagata

Takako Nagata is Head of Proposition for International Risk & Health and is responsible for managing international clients, predominantly Far Eastern companies of all sizes with their Health and Wellbeing benefit.  Takako joined 3HR Benefits Consultancy in August 2008, and is now based at Broadstone’s headquarters in London.  Prior to joining, Takako was Head of International Services at PIFC Consulting (now part of Capita Employee Benefits) for 8 years.

Specialising in International Health & Wellbeing since 2001, and working with a number of large multi-national companies, Takako has expertise in understanding cultural differences and can provide strategic solutions to corporate clients on how to manage their Health & Wellbeing benefits, and support company policies and procedures.  She has a cltakakear understanding of problems and challenges multi-national companies face in foreign countries.  She also understands that each case is unique and has a passion for providing support that will achieve the best outcome for employers and employees in a cost-effective way.

Director, Employee Benefits

Craig Williams

Craig is currently a member of Broadstone’s Employee Benefits management team and has over 20 years’ experience as an Employee Benefits Consultant over which time he has acted in various capacities. Prior to joining Broadstone Craig was the Managing Director of CS Financial Solutions, a business acquired by Broadstone in February 2019.

As part of his role, Craig is responsible for the development of Broadstone’s flexible benefits technology, Flexcel, working closely with programmers, voluntary benefits specialists and total reward professionals. Craig now manages the team responsible for the delivery of Flexcel to clients and has personally supported several recent platform launches.

As head of Broadstone’s benefits technology offering, he is ideally placed to consult with Broadstone’s key clients to continually review and develop our proposition to meet changing client needs.

Craig currently also acts as key account manager to some of Broadstone’s larger employers providing specialist pensions support and holistic consultancy alongside management of employee benefits technology. Areas of specialism include workplace pensions reform, design of corporate benefit packages; issues relating to merger and acquisition; and management of defined benefits, defined contributions and hybrid schemes.

Kim Sraidi manages the Regulated Pensions administration team based at our Sheffield Office. Kim joined the firm in April 2013. Prior to joining Broadstone Kim held a variety of roles over her 28 years in the industry including administration, paraplanning, management and a consultant role. Andrew Mobberley

Andrew Mobberley is Head of Sales based out of our London office having joined us from Aon.  Prior to this he has worked for Thomsons Online Benefits and Alexander Forbes where he spent 15 years in various senior sales roles. Andrew is responsible for leading the new business team, whilst helping to shape our propositions so that we remain market leading.

Andrew is an experienced leader who is actively involved in helping clients shape their reward programme to drive engagement with benefits. He is especially interested in the application of technology in the workplace.

Although his football days are long behind him, he enjoys watching all forms of sport and his aim is to improve his golf handicap.

Julie Conner

Julie Conner is the Risk & Healthcare Operations Manager based in our Falkirk office and supports the client delivery within the administration teams ensuring an excellent customer service is provided.

Julie has worked in the financial services industry since 1987 working in both the Insurer and Intermediary sectors, specialising in Group Risk and Corporate Employee Benefits for the last 12 years.

Julie joined the firm in 2010. Prior to joining, Julie worked for Mercer Employee Benefits Limited for four years.  In this role she gained extensive knowledge on all Group Risk, Pensions and Wealth Management products. Previously Julie worked at Standard Life and dealt with individual and corporate products in the Employee Benefits division. Julie has Chartered Insurance Institute certificates in financial planning FPC 1 and 2.

Emily is a senior consultant based in our London office.

Emily has over 20 years of account management and business development experience within the employee benefits sector.  Emily specialises in Healthcare, Risk and Wellness.  Emily has achieved industry qualifications with IF7 and GR1 resulting in accreditation with the CII for Health & Protection.

Robin Watkins is Client Relationship Director, supporting clients of all sizes with their employee benefits, engagement and well being.  Based at Broadstone’s headquarters in London, Robin joined the firm in January 2014. Prior to joining, Robin was a Health and Risk Consultant at Willis for the previous 6 years.

Working in Employee Benefits and Pensions since 1999, and specialising in benefits since 2001, Robin is a very experienced Employee Benefit Consultant with expertise in providing strategic advice to corporate clients across their employee benefits and supporting company policies and procedures.  With his background in Health and Wellbeing consulting, he has a passion for considering policies and benefits as one combined with getting the best support for both employers and employees in a cost effective way.

Ceri Torrance

Ceri Torrance is a Client Relationship Director, supporting clients of all sizes with their employee benefits, engagement and wellbeing. Based in our Falkirk office, Ceri joined the firm in 2014 following its acquisition of her previous employer, Blythwood Group Ltd from whom she had been employed with since her entry into Employee Benefits in 2004.

She is a very experienced consultant and has worked with companies ranging in size from SME to Large Corporates. Ceri provides expertise in health & wellbeing strategies and developing sustainable & cost effective employee benefits packages.

Kathryn Oatway

Kathryn is the Group Risk Team Leader based in our Falkirk office for the past 10 years. Kathryn is responsible for the Group Risk benefits team and also continues to provide administration support to clients.

Kathryn has worked in the Group Risk industry for 13 years working in both the Insurer and Intermediary sectors. She joined Broadstone as a Group Risk Administrator in 2008 from the Employee Benefits Department in Aegon where she worked for three years in the renewals servicing team. In this role she gained extensive knowledge on all Group Risk products and administered schemes throughout the renewal process.

Kathy Primo

Kathy is a Consultant with circa 30 years’ experience in the financial services sector of which around 20 years have been in the field supporting clients of all sizes with their employee benefits, engagement and well being.

Based at Broadstone’s Falkirk office in Scotland, Kathy joined Broadstone in June 2015 to manage a portfolio of clients and develop the group risk and health and wellbeing proposition.

Prior to this, she worked for Blackmore Healthcare/Alexander Forbes, who were subsequently purchased by Jardine Lloyd Thompson, where she held the role of Account Manager developing her own portfolio of healthcare, wellbeing and risk schemes.

Previous experience includes working with general insurance brokers and with Bupa for 10 years where she managed the sales support team for the external Consultants and provided Account Management Support to the Regional Sales Manager.

She then made the transition to a Consultant with her own portfolio.

Kathy has her IF7 Health Insurance qualification in Health Insurance Products and is currently working towards the GR1 qualification in Group Risk.

In June 2015, Kathy joined Broadstone Risk & Healthcare to manage a portfolio of clients and develop the group risk and health and wellbeing proposition.

Emma Machin

Emma Machin is a Client Relationship Manager based in our Sheffield Office specialising in Healthcare & Risk solutions for smaller employers. Emma has been in the employee benefits industry since 2001 and joined the firm in August 2017.

Emma has a wealth of industry experience with varied roles including account manager and technician. Her previous employers include Canada Life, Zurich, Unum, and Jelf Group. She has a broad knowledge of all employee benefits, particularly Group Risk. Emma relocated from Bristol to Sheffield in 2016 and prior to joining she expanded her knowledge working with DC pension and auto enrollment clients whilst at Grant Thornton.

Antony Hale

Antony Hale is a Senior Consultant based in our London office and is responsible for advising and coordinating services for our clients.

Antony is a Chartered Financial Planner and also holds the Advanced Diploma in financial advice from the Chartered Insurance Industry. Matthew Dorrington

Matt is a Senior Consultant in our Employee Benefits team with a particular specialism in Defined Contribution (DC) pensions – contract, Trust and Master Trust.  From start-ups to multinational businesses Matt is experienced at working across the whole spectrum and is skilled at helping clients to understand their true needs and objectives, in order to find the right solutions, that add value and bring a tangible return on investment of both their time and money.

Matt joined us in October 2018 prior to which he spent 5 years as a Senior Consultant at Capita Employee Benefits. Matt has worked in employee benefits since 1995 spending his first 17 years at one of the largest insurers of workplace pensions in the UK. Having worked for both insurers and consultancies over the last 25 years has given Matt a very well informed and rounded view. He has even spent 18 months working on website content for some of the largest pension schemes in the UK.

Matt is very passionate about helping businesses and people improve their financial wellbeing offering practical, sustainable and relevant solutions.

Nick Brazier

Nick Brazier is FCA regulated Senior Corporate Benefits Consultant, supporting his clients to engage with their employee benefits from pension consultancy, member communications to the online benefits portal. Nick currently lives in the Midlands and is based out of Broadstone’s HQ in London, he joined the firm in January 2019 as part of the CS Financial Solutions acquisition, where he had been since January 2016.

With over 20 year’s experience within the Financial Services sector of which 12 years are in the corporate pensions and benefit’s space. Nick is a very experienced consultant, providing advice and consultancy to corporate clients across their employee benefits.

John McCarthy

Chris Hampson

Bronia Widdows

Paul Bowden FIA

Paul, a qualified actuary, was one of the owners of BBS when the business was acquired by the Broadstone Group. He is now responsible for administration services of the Group. He has worked in the industry for over 20 years, previously as a Senior Pensions Consultant at Mercer. Paul has overseen the growth in our administration department to the thriving team it is today. Paul is committed to maintaining our demanding service standards, believing that “through employing the best staff available and using high-tech workflow techniques to monitor every member request, we can differentiate ourselves from our competitors in terms of both service and value for money”. Paul enjoys all sports (although various injuries have put paid to his playing ambitions), following Bristol Rovers, Gloucestershire CCC and spending most of his holiday time supporting the England cricket team on their winter tours.

Neil Barton

Neil’s career in pensions began back in 1999 at Profund Systems, a leading provider of pensions administration software. Neil spent nearly 10 years at Profund. He also had a short spell with TerraNua, a financial services software company based in Dublin and part of Fidelity International.

Neil specialises in working closely with both pension schemes and sponsoring employers and prides himself on fully understanding the requirements of his prospective clients before finding appropriate, high quality and cost-effective solutions that exactly address their needs.

Head of London Actuarial

Alan Carey

Alan is a Scheme Actuary who has worked in the pensions field for over 20 years. He joined Broadstone from JLT / Mercer in October 2019 and heads our London Actuarial team.

Alan qualified in 1999 and has spent the intervening decades advising Trustees and sponsors of Defined Benefit pension schemes on ways to protect the interests of their members’ benefits while balancing the needs of the sponsoring entity and its various stakeholders. Alan has provided advice to these parties on investment strategy, shaping benefit design (including the introduction of Defined Contribution arrangements) and mitigating liability and asset risks, as well as negotiating equitable solutions during merger and acquisition activity.

Alan has helped several groups of Trustees through the full journey from closure to future accrual, through improved funding and members option exercises, to eventual buy-out and wind-up of their Trust.

Outside of work, Alan has three children at secondary school whose extra-curricular activities dominate much of his spare-time, but whenever the chance arises he enjoys watching the odd game of rugby.

Chris Rice

Chris joined Broadstone in 2020 after 7 years at Capita Employee Solutions as a Senior Actuarial Consultant. Prior to that Chris held a similar role at JLT (now Mercer).

Chris is widely experienced in scheme de-risking and has navigated many schemes through liability management exercises right through to the buyout phase, and will focus on growing Broadstone’s corporate consulting proposition.  Chris has been a Scheme Actuary for over 10 years with experience of advising schemes with a range of asset sizes from below £10m to over £300m.

Andy Thomson

Andy is a Senior Actuarial Director and Scheme Actuary based in Broadstone’s Glasgow office. Along with Ann Marie Dickson, he founded Thomson Dickson Consulting in 2002. TDC became part of the Broadstone Group in April 2019.

Andy has extensive experience in managing all aspects of DB pension schemes and advising on the full range of actuarial and consultancy services to both trustees and sponsoring employers. He is also involved with the design and delivery of communication programs to help members understand the value and options available with their DB scheme benefits.

Andy has a degree in Mathematics and Statistics from Glasgow University and became a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries in 1999.

Andy is married to Lorraine and has three children, Jack, Stuart and Lauren. He is not encouraging them to become actuaries.

Gerry Walsh

Gerry is a qualified actuary, and has been involved in the pensions industry since 1990, advising defined benefit and defined contribution arrangements run by a wide range of industry sponsors including a number of household names.

With pragmatism built on the comfort of a thorough understanding of the workings of a pension scheme, Gerry is able to take the lead role in guiding schemes smoothly to their eventual destination.

His extensive industry experience incorporates roles at PwC, Punter Southall, Mercer and Mitchell Consulting, with particular expertise in:

Gavin Giles

Gavin is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and joined Broadstone (then BBS) from Towers Watson in 2013, after also having worked at Aon and Mercer. Between 2014 and 2016 Gavin served a two-year term as the President of the Bristol Actuarial Society.

Acting as Consulting Actuary to a wide range of sponsors and pension schemes, he was appointed to the BBS Board of Directors from 1 April 2018 and has responsibility for our Consultancy Services including the development of the solutions that we offer to our clients. Gavin holds a first class masters degree in Astrophysics from the University of Bristol (although he says that the universe has moved on a lot since he completed his studies!). Away from work, he spends most of his time with his young family and has a keen interest in sport, helping to coach his son’s rugby team.

Marc Devereux FIA

Marc joined Broadstone in 2020 as an Investment Consulting Director.  As well as leading investment advice to a range of clients, Marc is responsible for helping to grow and develop Broadstone’s investment consulting services.

Marc previously worked as a Senior Investment Consultant at Momentum Investment Solutions & Consulting.  Prior to this he was an Investment Principal at Mercer and started his career at Aon Hewitt.  Marc graduated from the University of Southampton with a first class honours degree in Mathematics and Actuarial Science.

He is a senior investment consultant whose main role is to provide strategic investment advice to clients. Before advising clients on their investments, Tim was a scheme actuary, pensions consultant and corporate adviser. Tim has a Law degree from the University of Manchester. In his spare time, Tim enjoys travelling, although with a young family he is finding this increasingly difficult!

Nick Mellor FIA

Nick joined Broadstone (then BBS) in August 2007 after qualifying with a BSc (First Class) in Mathematics from Bristol University. He joined the investment team in July 2012, and supports the team in strategic investment reviews, performance reports and collating information on fund managers. He is also a keen chef specialising in baking, with his colleagues sampling his work from time to time.

Paul Frost APMI

Paul started his career at Sedgwick Noble Lowndes as an administrator in 1997, and worked for Buck Consultants for 13 years before joining BBS in February 2016. BBS was then acquired by the Broadstone Group in 2019. He is qualified as an Associate of the Pensions Management Institute, and joined the Board of BBS in 2018. Paul is responsible for managing the relationships we have with our pension administration clients, ensuring the services being provided exceed the expectations of clients and members alike. Paul is married with two young children, and whilst he loves spending time with his family, he also enjoys the odd Sunday morning on the golf course.

Mark Buckley

Mark Buckley is an Actuarial Director, supporting clients of all sizes with their pension benefits.  Based at Broadstone’s office in Sheffield, Mark manages a team of 17 actuaries and actuarial students.  Mark joined the firm in March 2007, prior to which he worked in the actuarial team at PriceWaterhouseCoopers for 6 years.

Working in the actuarial industry since 1989, and specialising in pensions and investments since 1995, Mark is a very experienced actuarial consultant with expertise in providing strategic advice to Trustees and Corporate clients across their employee benefits.  Mark is a Scheme Actuary for numerous schemes with a passion for good value and proportionate advice across his client portfolio.

Out of work, Mark’s main interest is mountain biking and football, although he would never pass up on the opportunity to play golf.

Actuarial Director

John Broome Saunders

John is a qualified consulting actuary and authorised investment advisor, with over 20 years’ experience of providing analytically-focused advice on the management of complex long-term financial structures such as defined benefit pension schemes.

John provides advice on funding, investment, accounting and management issues, drawing on Broadstone’s wider expertise in financial and investment modelling. In particular, John helps clients understand and manage the legacy risks associated with defined benefit pension provision. He has developed a number of innovative approaches that can both increase trustee security and reduce sponsor risks.

A mathematics graduate from the University of Durham, John spent the early part of his actuarial career with international consulting firm Towers Perrin, and has been at Broadstone for over 14 years.

Vijay Shah

Vijay is an Actuarial Director based at the Firm’s headquarters in London; he joined Broadstone in August 2011.

Vijay graduated from the London School of Economics in 1996 with a degree in Actuarial Science and is a Fellow of the Faculty and Institute of Actuaries.

Throughout his career, Vijay has been involved in all aspects of trustee advice work for schemes ranging in size from £1m to £500m and is a Scheme Actuary to a number of pension schemes. He has also provided investment consulting advice to smaller closed schemes on route to ultimate buyout.

He has advised corporate clients on a variety of pension projects such as benefit alterations, scheme closure, reaching agreement with trustees on various aspects of actuarial valuations and on pension accounting. This has included giving evidence as an expert witness at the Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris, in a pensions dispute between multinational firms.

Vijay has over 20 years’ experience in pensions, all acquired in consulting firms: Punter Southall, Gissings (now part of Capita) and Barnett Waddingham.

Mike Calder

Mike is an Actuarial Director in our Glasgow Office. He worked for several actuarial consulting firms and insurance companies in his career, before joining Broadstone in May 2019. Mike has significant experience of providing pragmatic actuarial advice to the trustees and employers of small to medium-sized defined benefit schemes. Outside of work, Mike is a ‘swim dad’ and occasionally finds time to go to the gym.

Ann Marie Dickson

Ann Marie is a Scheme Actuary based in Broadstone’s Glasgow office. Along with Andy Thomson, she founded Thomson Dickson Consulting in 2002. TDC became part of the Broadstone Group in April 2019.

Ann Marie has extensive experience in managing all aspects of DB pension schemes and advising on a broad range of actuarial and consultancy services to both trustees and sponsoring employers.

Ann Marie has a degree in Mathematics from Glasgow University and qualified as an actuary in 1993.  She enjoys travelling and is a long-time volunteer with a local children’s charity.

Mark Channon

Mark became a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 2010 and joined Broadstone (then BBS) in July 2016. He previously worked for Mercer, initially in the UK before taking the opportunity to head up their New Zealand actuarial business for a number of years. Mark has extensive experience acting as a scheme actuary and trusted consultant to pension scheme trustees and sponsors. Penny Stanley

Penny Stanley is an Actuarial Director based in our Sheffield office.  She is the Scheme Actuary to a number of Broadstone’s clients and is a client relationship manager to others. Russell Walmsley FIA

Russell joined Broadstone (then BBS) straight from Aston University in 1999 and is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, having qualified in 2006. He is currently responsible for managing the actuarial work-flow for a large number of clients and oversees the development of more junior members of the actuarial team. Karen Rodgers

Karen Rodgers is an Actuarial Director, based at Broadstone’s office in Sheffield. Karen joined Kerr & Company in October 2005 and followed its transition to Pope Anderson and Broadstone. She has over 30 years experience working in pensions, having started her career with Noble Lowndes and then SNL and Mercer.

Karen is a member of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and holds a Scheme Actuary certificate. She has experience in all aspects of running occupational pension schemes and advising trustees and employers. As well as being a Scheme Actuary to a number of clients, she also provides support to the other qualified actuaries and consultants within the company.

Andrew Blain

Andrew is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and joined Broadstone in July 2019 having previously worked at Willis Towers Watson and HSBC Actuaries and Consultants. He has over 18 years’ experience in the pensions industry, advising both trustee and corporate clients, and he has held a number of scheme actuary appointments since 2012. Andrew graduated with a first-class degree in Geology and Geophysics from Durham University, and in a previous career, worked as a seismologist in the oil industry. Outside of work, he is a keen cyclist and enjoys a wide variety of sports (although he continues to be disappointed in his football team, Newcastle United). He also enjoys cooking and eating and is grateful that cycling burns off the calories.

David Hamilton

David joined Broadstone in 2019 having previously worked for JLT and HSBC. Yvonne Wan

Yvonne joined Broadstone in October 2018 and is based in our Manchester office. She is a qualified actuary with 18 years’ experience in the pensions industry.

Yvonne has extensive experience of providing advice to Trustee and corporate clients on defined benefit and defined contribution pension arrangements ranging from under £5 million to over £500 million in asset size. This advice has spanned the full lifetime of a pension scheme from new scheme set-up all the way through to buy-out and wind-up, including regular ongoing matters such as triennial funding valuations, integrated risk management, member communications and scheme governance, and one-off projects such as bulk liability management exercises, scheme mergers and employer debts.

She holds a Scheme Actuary Practising Certificate and is currently appointed as the Scheme Actuary for a number of pension schemes.

Prior to joining Broadstone, Yvonne started her career at Mercer working there for over 8 years before moving to JLT (which became part of Mercer in 2019).

Yvonne has a first class honours degree in Mathematics from Manchester University, where she won a number of prizes for outstanding performance. She qualified as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in 2005. She was also the People & Society News Editor for The Actuary magazine, the official magazine of the actuarial profession, for over 7 years until mid-2019.

David Brooks

David provides trustee secretarial and consultancy services to clients, providing a variety of advice including governance matters, training, annual and lifetime allowance issues and other changes to legislation.

David leads our pensions technical team, providing support to the administration, actuarial and wider business.  He drafts most of our Briefing Notes and the BROADSTONE Index.

He has worked in the pensions industry for over seventeen years, since leaving university. He began his career in the personal pensions area before moving to occupational and trust based pensions administration.  He originally joined the firm in 2001 from Watson Wyatt.

Geoff Carr

Geoff provides investment consultancy advice to Trustees and employers, as well as providing full-service benefit consultancy advice to a portfolio of long-standing clients.

Geoff has over 20 years’ consultancy experience covering a range of pension scheme issues. He started his career at Hymans Robertson where he spent 10 years advising clients on all aspects of their pension arrangements. He joined Kerr & Company / Pope Anderson in 2002 and was an equity partner, heading up the firm’s investment consultancy practice prior to the move to Broadstone in November 2012.

As well as being a member of The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, Geoff also has a Diploma in Actuarial Techniques and a Diploma in Actuarial Science.

Marc Davies

Marc joined Broadstone (then BBS) in October 2002 as Administration Manager and joined the Board of BBS in 2018. He has worked in the industry since 1988 and obtained the PMI’s Qualification in Pensions Administration during that time. Marc has day-to-day responsibility for our Bristol-based administration services, and he also specialises in new client implementation and discontinuance work. Marc is married with three children and, in what little spare time remains, enjoys reading, watching most sports and participating in a few.

Richard Emery

Richard joined Broadstone (then BBS) in May 2006 from Lloyds TSB, where he worked on the in-house pensions team. He has extensive experience in Final Salary pensions administration, having also worked for two other Bristol consultancies and Clerical Medical Investment Group.

His current role as Deputy Head of Administration involves working closely with the Administration Manager and Team Leaders to ensure Broadstone continues to provide an excellent service, with particular emphasis on member feedback and staff development.

Richard is married, and he and his wife are keen cyclists, actively taking part in sportives and time trials.

Karina Snook

Karina joined Broadstone (then BBS) in 2004 having previously worked at Mercer for 3 years. She has completed an NVQ (level 4) in pension administration. She became a team leader in 2011 responsible for a team of 10 and managing the day to day administration of a wide range of clients.

Julie Stewart

Julie is Head of Pensions Admin Operations and has overall responsibility for the pensions administration, payroll, accounts and treasury functions across Sheffield and Manchester.  She is based in the Sheffield office and oversees service delivery for all Administration clients, driving continued improvement of client experience.

Julie joined Broadstone in August 2019 with 19 years’ experience in the pensions industry.  This experience has been built up in various roles with Aon, with her final role seeing her lead on the delivery of quality administrative services to a large number of clients with final salary, defined contribution and CARE pension schemes.  Julie has an Advanced Diploma in Retirement Provision from the PMI.

John Newman

John is the Director of our Group Schemes Department which provides administration services to Broadstone’s clients, ranging in size from a total membership of 20 members up to 4,000 members. 

The services offered by the department include pension administration, consultancy, pensioner payroll, cash management, preparation of trustees’ report and accounts, annuity purchase, secretary to the trustees, trustee training, technical advice and client briefings.

John joined Friends Provident in 1989 and moved to Century Life in 1995. At both companies he worked on the administration of various types of group pension and group risk arrangements.

John joined the firm in 1998 and has extensive experience of setting up schemes where Broadstone have been appointed.

Robyn Smith

Robyn Smith is a qualified Actuary and Consultant based in the Manchester office. Robyn joined Broadstone in July 2018 and has nearly 10 years industry experience having previously worked as an Actuarial Analyst at Capita and a DC investment consultant at River and Mercantile. She has a range of technical and consulting experience as a result of providing actuarial advice to Trust based clients and investment advice both from a fiduciary and advisory perspective.

Robyn has a first class honours degree in Mathematics from the University of Birmingham and in her spare time enjoys running and playing netball.

Beau Flanaghan

Beau joined Broadstone in 2017 as an Actuarial Consultant. Prior to this, Beau started his professional career as an actuarial analyst at Mercer in 2012, where he quickly became a key member of the actuarial team. This involved providing actuarial support to senior colleagues and scheme actuaries on a wide range of Trustee and employer services, including triennial valuations and pension cost accounting. He also has valuable experience in presenting to members and running member drop-in sessions.

Beau graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2011 with a 1st class degree in Economics. He then continued his studies at the University of Sheffield and was awarded a Masters degree (Distinction) in Financial Economics in 2012. Beau is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and is currently working towards obtaining his scheme actuary certificate.

Lauren Holden

Lauren is a Senior Actuarial Consultant with experience of providing advice to Trustee and Corporate clients on defined benefit pension arrangements. Lauren joined the business in October 2018 and is based in Manchester, having previously worked at KPMG since joining the actuarial profession in 2014.

Nic Coleclough FIA

Nic is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and joined Broadstone in 2014, having previously worked for Deloitte and Towers Watson. Harvi Bhangu

Harvi is an investment consultant and part-qualified actuary who joined Broadstone in May 2018.  He is part of Broadstone’s London team of investment consultants and research analysts, and provides advice to a wide range of UK based clients.

Harvi’s main focus is helping pension schemes meet their ultimate goal of settling all member benefits in full, bringing investment expertise and offering solutions at every stage of the journey.  He has helped a number of clients to implement de-risking frameworks.

Prior to Broadstone, Harvi worked at Legal and General Investment Management (LGIM) as an LDI product specialist where he advised clients on investment solutions which met their de-risking frameworks.  Prior to LGIM, Harvi worked as an investment consultant at JLT where he advised on all aspects of defined benefit pension arrangements.  He began his career as an actuarial analyst at Alexander Forbes.

Louise Randall FPMI

Louise has a first class degree in History from Cardiff University and an MA from Bristol University. A long-standing employee of the Broadstone Group, she joined the business in 2000 having previously been at Mercer for two years. She is a Fellow of the Pensions Management Institute, Consultant to a portfolio of some 14 schemes, and has experience of DB, DC and PPF schemes. Catherine Fenton APMI

Catherine joined BBS in 2005 after completing a Law degree at the University of Manchester and became part of the Broadstone Group in October 2019. She qualified as an Associate of the Pensions Management Institute in 2008. Catherine looks after a portfolio of clients providing account management, trustee secretarial and advisory services. She has two young sons who keep her very busy, but in her limited spare time she enjoys reading a good book, sewing, yoga and sharing time with family and friends.

Chris McCarthy

Chris is a Pensions Consultant in our Trustees Services/Consulting and Actuarial department at Broadstone, based at our London office. Chris has been working in pensions since 2002 and joined Broadstone in 2004.  Since joining Broadstone Chris has gained invaluable experience as a Senior Administrator and Team leader and from 2008 has been carrying out the role of Trustee Secretary and consultant to a number of our clients, not only prepare meeting packs and minutes of trustee meetings but also helping to guide trustees through the ever changing pensions legislation landscape and the growing governance requirements. Before joining Broadstone, Chris worked at AMP NPI (subsequently outsourced to Hazell Carr), working on a portfolio of insured Group Personal Pension arrangements on all aspects of administration.

Richard McNair

Richard graduated from Glasgow University in 1993 gaining a Master of Arts degree in History and started his career in pensions at Sedgwick Noble Lowndes in the same year. Over the next decade, he gained further experience with other large pensions consultancies.

Richard joined Broadstone (formerly TDC) in April 2007. As a Client Manager, he manages the provision of Broadstone’s full range of standard services to a large portfolio of clients from a variety of industries. In addition, he provides specialist bespoke services for employers and trustees such as managing scheme closures, liability reduction exercises, financial education member presentations and providing trustee training.

Steven Crosby

Steven joined Broadstone (then BBS) in 2009 after graduating with a degree in Mathematics. He started as a Trainee Pensions Administrator, has attained the PMI Retirement Provision Certificate (RPC), Certificate in Pension Calculations (CPC) and Certificate in Pensions Automatic Enrolment (CPAE) qualifications and progressed to become a Deputy Team Leader. Steven enjoys watching most sports particularly motorsport, football, darts, snooker and cricket where he is a member of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club.
