Alan is a Scheme Actuary who has worked in the pensions field for over 20 years. He joined Broadstone from JLT / Mercer in October 2019 and heads our London Actuarial team.
Alan qualified in 1999 and has spent the intervening decades advising Trustees and sponsors of Defined Benefit pension schemes on ways to protect the interests of their members’ benefits while balancing the needs of the sponsoring entity and its various stakeholders. Alan has provided advice to these parties on investment strategy, shaping benefit design (including the introduction of Defined Contribution arrangements) and mitigating liability and asset risks, as well as negotiating equitable solutions during merger and acquisition activity.
Alan has helped several groups of Trustees through the full journey from closure to future accrual, through improved funding and members option exercises, to eventual buy-out and wind-up of their Trust.
Outside of work, Alan has three children at secondary school whose extra-curricular activities dominate much of his spare-time, but whenever the chance arises he enjoys watching the odd game of rugby.
