Trainee Solutions Developer

Role Purpose

Working with other members of the Application Support department, reporting directly to the Application Support Manager, the Trainee Solutions Developer’s chief responsibilities include supporting professional colleagues in undertaking the management of trust based pension schemes through database management, creation of SQL scripts, functions, and stored procedures, system upgrades, and creation/maintenance of a suite of external tools built using C# and/or VB.net.

Key Accountabilities

  • Undertaking support work at the direction of senior colleagues
  • Liaise with colleagues throughout the Administration and Application Support streams to understand system/work requirements
  • Work with other members of the Application Support team to create specifications for new solutions (or changes to existing solutions) where there is a strong business case for development
  • Use appropriate tools to develop such solutions (SQL/C#/VB.net), adhering to best practice for code commenting and documentation
  • Liaise with colleagues to ensure solutions are fully tested and fit for purpose
  • Provide training, documentation, and support for end users at point of release
  • Maintenance and support of web services, integrated with SQL databases (CSS, HTML, JavaScript)
  • Performing database and application upgrades for the administration platforms, usually undertaken annually
  • Developing a basic knowledge in trust-based pension management in order to progress a career within the working environment

Required

  • Graduate of a software/computer science-based degree course
  • Strong proficiency with SQL, especially the T-SQL dialect
    OR
  • Strong proficiency with C#, vb.net, and the .net framework

Recommended

  • Knowledge of project management methodologies
  • Experience/interest in expanding knowledge with T-SQL or C#, vb.net, and the .net framework (dependant on Required Skills)
  • Experience with software version and revision control systems, especially Subversion
  • Experience with CSS, HTML, JavaScript
  • Understanding of XML and XSD
