Jayne Lawton looks forward to a great future at the Broadstone Incubator
L-R: Jack Glonek, Tony Walker, and Richard Sym
The Broadstone Knowledge Mill Business Incubator is now up and running. The project is happening in a mill that has been a local landmark since it was established 100 years ago. It is now making a new mark as it is being refurbished to accommodate new high-technology businesses of tomorrow in flexible business spaces.
It is part of a major plan to expand and diversify the economic base of the local area, creating a lively urban village in which to live, work and play. The new Broadstone Knowledge Mill workspace is complemented by a development of 500 apartments by Millshomes at the nearby Cotton Quarter.
Opening the Incubator, and soon to be resident in it, was Jayne Lawton (left). Stockport-based Jayne was recently made British Female Innovator of the Year 2006 and Packard Bell's Independent Businesswomen of the Year. Jayne scooped the award with her invention, the simple but ingenious Grobox: dig a hole, add water and the box does the rest. Jayne said ‘I'm looking forward to moving into the Incubator and developing Grobox here and am also designing some community gardens for the people of Reddish; to help in building the urban village'.

Jack Glonek of Stockport Council said ‘This is just the sort of business space that is helping to attract the businesses of the future to Stockport and we are looking forward to seeing even more entrepreneurs such as Jayne set up and grow in the area.'
The incubation programme is supported by a number of organisations including Stockport Council, TBV Business Services and University of Manchester Incubator Company (UMIC) who nurture businesses in five incubators across Greater Manchester.
Tony Walker of UMIC said ‘Business Incubation is designed to nurture and grow new and small businesses by supporting them through the early stages of development and change.
